The novel follows the story of an unnamed narrator, who witnesses the invasion of Earth by Martians. The Martians, with their superior technology, land in England and quickly begin to destroy everything in their path. The narrator, along with his brother, experiences the horrors of the invasion firsthand, from the initial landing of the Martian cylinders to the eventual defeat of the invaders.
